A. The final testament of Dr. Rizal pertains only to Catholic religion and not because he's atheist. That time, Catholic is the known religion in the Philippines(even though there were chinese religion). During that era, you have to choose between the cross(Catholics) and sword(death).

A. It is not really seen in the book, but the 'taong madilaw' died because Elias pushed him in the accident. Ibarra was saved because Elias has 'utang na loob' to Ibarra when Ibarra saved him from the (aligator/crocodile?). The taong madilaw planned for Ibarra to die by making it look like an accident, but Elias saw right through it.

There will always be those who have and those who have nothing with each having something to say about the other. Generally this is OK until the fighting starts.
